BOUS alum Slavinski & Gail Kattouf smoke the field at Powerman Alabama (pros too)

2008firstteamDuathletes are tough. Duathletes who rock on Powerman Alabama's notoriously difficult course are especially tough.

Back in 2008, New Jersey's tough Dave Slavinski raced to a 5th place award at the Best of the U.S. National Championship. That year, partnered with teammate Suzanne Huelster (2008 & 2009 USAT National Duathlon Champion, pictured here with Dave) he shared the Fastest State Team title for NJ. Huelster, now a Colorado resident, was back at BOUS in 2010, and took third overall. Told you duathletes are tough. Dave, meanwhile, spent 2010 earning his well-deserved Duathlete of the Year title.

Yesterday, Slavinski ratcheted it up another notch, burning up the Powerman Alabama course to finish nearly 5 minutes ahead of the next amateur--and faster than all the pros except winner Ryan Giuliano.

Gail Kattouf, (a previous BOUS qualifier for South Carolina and two-time Duathlete of the Year nominee) also went supersonic, finishing2010_5th_brucegennari nearly 10 minutes ahead of second place Shannon Hawrylo and the rest of the women's field. She also was competitive with the pros, finishing ahead of all but the first and second pro women. Another previous BOUS qualifier, Elizabeth Waterstraat, was fourth. Still impressive at 45, Bruce Gennari (a perennial BOUS qualifier for Tennessee and once-upon-a-time Triathlete of the Year, shown at left taking 5th place at BOUS 2010) was 2nd in his division.  Powerman Results
