Route 66 is the only race in the nation to have contributed two Best of the U.S. National Champions. Not only that, but Bethany Handley and Joanna Fiddler won their championships in back-to-back years (2009 and 2010). 

Ever since young Dan Agnew surprised the field in 2006 to take 6th place overall, triathletes from all 50 states have learned to watch their backs when Sooners are in the race.
