Florida's Great Clermont Kicks Off Best of the U.S. 2011

For years Hawaii's Lavaman Triathlon has held the spotlight as the first event on the Best of the U.S. schedule. This year's calendar, however, favors the Sunshine State. Hard to believe, but just three weeks from now Florida's best will be vying for Championship berths at World Triathlon Destination, Waterfront Park, for the 28th Great Clermont Tri. [Lavaman is just a week later, on April 3.]

Favor may shine on Florida athletes in another regard this year, as well. With the Championship Race practically next door, Team Florida should be able to send a full and power-packed team.

Last year Seeley Guiterrez (right) did Florida proud with her 5th Place performance. No doubt if teammates like Nic Tautive, Allison Costello, Natalie Kirchhov, Kyle Hooker or Andrea Ugazio had been able to attend, they would have been highly competitive in the Team Competition.
