Rules

Best of the U.S. Competition Rules are straightforward:

• Amateurs only

• Must qualify in their home state (see FAQ for military and student exceptions)

• May qualify only at their home state's Designated Qualifier Race

NEW IN 2010: All six medalists are invited to represent their state at the National Championship. The first place finishers will still be featured in a separate Champions Wave. All others will race in Wave 2, also head-to-head regardless of age. All racers from both waves are eligible for the overall awards.

• Passdown Rules: If the first place finisher is unable to accept their Champions Wave berth, the slot will be offered to that state's second place finisher or on to the third place finisher if necessary. Passdowns will not be offered deeper than third place resident from the Qualifier Race. The highest placing advancing athlete races in the Champions Wave; all others in Wave 2.

NEW FASTEST STATE TEAM COMPETITION STRUCTURE creates more opportunities to earn awards. Starting in 2010, Team Awards will go to the Top Three in three categories:

FASTEST COED STATE TEAM: Combines only the fastest male & female time from the state team, regardless of which wave they race in.

FASTEST MEN'S STATE TEAM: Combines the TWO fastest men's times from the state team, regardless of which wave they race in.

FASTEST WOMEN'S STATE TEAM: Combines the TWO fastest women's times from the state team, regardless of which wave they race in.

• State Medalists (1st, 2nd, 3rd Place) must contact Best of the U.S. by phone or email within 1 week of their Qualifier Race to establish communications. Formal acceptance of the slot is not required at that time.

• Best of the U.S. management reserves the right to extend invitations at their discretion, in special situations.

• Championship Athletes must register via registration options offered by the Host Race Directors.

• USAT Rules & Regulations govern the outcome of the Championship Race.
